"Marsh Muddin" at Sawgrass Preserve.

Looking for an adventurous start to your weekend? How would you like to hike a seldom accessible part of Lake County. On Friday June 20, at 6;00pm, Trout Lake Nature Center invites you to go, "Marsh Muddin" at Lake County Water Authority's, Sawgrass Preserve.

The recent dry spell means that a habitat which is normally covered in water is now almost, dry land and can be explored on foot. This 400 acre marsh offers stunning big sky vistas, and when the walker’s attention turns to the ground there are a multitude of plants, from tiny carnivorous sundews, aromatic bacopa, to redroot a favorite of sandhill cranes, and many more.

Our wetland hike will take us across about a half mile of marsh to the bog button trail, and then back up the causeway where we will likely see evidence that one of Florida’s largest omnivores, Florida black bear has been dining there.

If you would like to join us for this evening adventure, call Lake County Water Authority 352-343-3777 to reserve a space and for more information.
